Matthews views move to Twerton Park as 'fresh start'

City Women’s Jasmine Matthews is looking forward to the Robins’ ‘fresh start’ at Twerton Park, and believes it shows great ambition for the upcoming season.

Matthews is currently the longest-serving player in the squad having signed for City in 2011 and is currently in her second spell at the club after leaving for Liverpool FC for the 2018-2019 season.

The 24-year-old has experienced great memories during her time playing at the SGS Stoke Gifford Stadium, however she’s excited for the clubs first season at Twerton Park.

“It's my first time visiting Twerton Park and it’s amazing,” said Matthews.

“We had great memories at SGS, but I think it’s time for us to take it to the next level and play in a stadium. New City, hopefully new fans, so I'm sure it will be good.

“If we do have a good crowd behind us you’re really going to hear them, the supporters were great at SGS but sometimes the noise sort of escaped, but I think here we’re going to really hear them on the pitch which is a great thing for the players."

"The move to Twerton Park shows which way the club is going, and I think it’s in a great direction.

“I think this pitch is a bit of Bristol and what we’re about.  SGS was a really nice place and has really good memories, but it’s good to have a fresh start and hopefully we have some good results here.”

Matthews is also relishing the chance to return to Ashton Gate again this season after it was confirmed that City Women will be playing a number of games in BS3 this season.

“It is world-class facilities there, it’s always so special playing at Ashton Gate and I think getting a few games there will only uplift us a bit more and when we come here [Twerton Park] it’s going to be great as well, so I’m really excited to be playing at Ashton Gate.”
