🔎 Match Preview: West Bromwich Albion (H)

Take an in-depth look at how City match up against West Bromwich Albion when they host the Baggies at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

🔴 OURSELVES

The Robins head into Saturday's fixture off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Barnsley at Oakwell after conceding two first-half goals from set-pieces.

Nigel Pearson will want his side to pick up some consistency as they head into their last eight games of the season looking for a positive finish.

Both the players and staff will be very keen to improve on last year's 19th-placed finish as they look to pick up more wins come the end of the season.

Pearson said: “They have got a good squad and Steve (Bruce) is a very experienced manger and I think given time he will get them right.

"They've still got a reasonable chance of pushing for the play-off places and I think that will be their intention for the rest of the season.

"He will recognise that we are a difficult opponent to play but he will also know where our weaknesses are so we have got to make sure our game is up there with our best performances.

"When we played at their place it was another frustrating away day because we weren’t resilient at the back and we conceded some poor goals.

"After a poor performance against Barnsley we need to put things to bed quickly and find the right solutions."

🧳 OUR OPPONENTS

West Brom come into this game off the back of an impressive 1-0 win at home to Fulham on Tuesday night after Callum Robinson's second-half strike earned the Baggies all three points.

After a very positive result against the league leaders Steve Bruce will be keen for his side to continue their search for a play-off spot after a dramatic decline in form since the turn of the year.

With four goal involvements in his last three games Karlan Grant will be hopeful that he can continue his form and help the Baggies claim a spot in the play-offs.

MATCH REWIND

Result: Bristol City 3-2 West Brom
When: 09.04.19
Competition: Sky Bet Championship

Three goals in an electric opening 20 minutes stretched City’s unbeaten run to five matches.

Josh Brownhill scored the first inside two minutes, while Andreas Weimann doubled the lead with a close-range finish.

Jake Livermore was robbed of the ball by Marlon Pack and the on-field captain fed Brownhill, who played a nice one-two with Weimann before sliding the ball past Sam Johnstone after just two minutes.

Not long after the first goal Brownhill played a ball into the box and it was blocked but cleared only as far as the number eight and his headed ball back into the box was stabbed home by Weimann.

Just three minutes later the Robins were in pandemonium once more with Jack Hunt netting his first goal for the club. Jay Dasilva needed two attempts to cross the ball but his second was stood up perfectly for Hunt, who arrived at the back post to head the ball into the Baggies net.

The Baggies pulled two goals back through Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez in the second half but that wasn't enough for them to stop the Robins from claiming all three points.

👀 ONE TO WATCH

KARLAN GRANT

Grant has 19 goal contributions for the Baggies so far this season with 13 goals and five assists. He'll be looking to take his tally to 20 goals for the season with another goal against the Robins this weekend after netting in their reverse fixture earlier on in the season.

The forward started his career at Charlton before permanent moves to Huddersfield Town then eventually West Brom in October 2020.

With four goal involvements in his last three games the 24-year-old will be very confident that he can help push the Baggies to play a play-off place come the end of the season.
