MansionBet Match Preview: Sheffield Wednesday (H)

Attentions turn to the Sky Bet Championship after both City and Sheffield Wednesday's Carabao Cup runs came to an end this week.

Get the lowdown on Bristol City v Sheffield Wednesday with Sunday's match preview brought you in partnership with MansionBet...

Aston Villa's two goals inside the first 15 minutes gave City a headache on Thursday night and despite their best efforts, succumbed to a counter attack with a third and final Villa goal late in the second half.

Against a Premier League opponent it was, on paper, likely to be City's greatest challenge of the season so far. Now, as Head Coach Dean Holden explained on Thursday night, it is about how the Robins bounce back from that first defeat and look to continue their early momentum in the league.

The Owls were also unbeaten in four games prior to their Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Fulham in midweek. Aboubakar Kamara and former City man Bobby Decordova Reid dealt the blows in the 2-0 win at Craven Cottage in midweek.

In some ways, it may be a relief for the Owls who can now focus solely on their bid to maintain their Championship status. It's a harder task for them having started the 2020/21 season having been deducted 12-points but they have already clawed their total to -8 thanks to an opening day win over Cardiff City. This was backed up by a 0-0 draw with Watford, who have been considered favourites to compete for promotion back to the top flight.

Injury update: Callum O’Dowda, Liam Walsh and Joe Morrell continue their rehabilitation, meanwhile Joe Williams, Jay Dasilva and Tomas Kalas are now back on grass.

Bristol City 4-0 Sheffield Wednesday
Ashton Gate Stadium
Saturday, March 3rd 2018
Sky Bet Championship

Bobby Reid grabbed his first career hat-trick as City slaughtered struggling Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 at Ashton Gate.

The Bristolian took his tally for the season to 18 with a first-half brace, which Josh Brownhill added to before the interval.

Reid completed his treble from the penalty spot in the 64th minute to kill the game as a contest, as City rediscovered their mojo – just as then Head Coach Lee Johnson had requested.
