MansionBet Match Preview: MK Dons

City host MK Dons as the players get another chance for match minutes under the belt.

How to watch on Robins TV

Seventeen years after the club was founded, following Wimbledon FC’s controversial move from South London, MK Dons have played the majority of their football in League One, where they finished 13th last season.

The club enjoyed a double-winning season in 2007/08 when they won the League Two title and EFL Trophy, and in 2014/15 the Dons finished runners-up in League One to reach the Championship.

Their spell in the second tier was short-lived as they finished 23rd to suffer relegation back to League One at the first time of asking. The club were relegated to League Two for the 2018/19 campaign but bounced back to League One immediately in part thanks to former Robins striker Kieran Agard’s 22 goals, where they have continued to compete in the last two seasons.

And in 2020/21, the Dons boasted the best passing accuracy (83.3%) and possession (60.3%) stats according to WhoScored.com.

🔁 ON THE MOVE

Scott Fraser v Bristol Rovers, 2020/21

With 14 goals and six assists, midfielder Scott Fraser played a key role in MK Dons’ 2020/21 campaign, before his move to Ipswich Town this summer.

He made 50 appearances in all competitions which included seven Man of the Match displays with a league average match rating of 7.11 for the season, according to WhoScored.com.

The Dundee-born attacking midfielder was a free signing last summer, after a career which has included two seasons previously at Burton Albion and a loan spell with Airdrieonians having developed through the Dundee United Academy.

After just one season with the Dons, he signed a three-year deal with the Tractor Boys on July 14th.

⏮ MATCH REWIND...

MK Dons 0-2 Bristol CIty
20.02.2016
Championship
Stadium MK

Bristol City maintained their unbeaten history against MK Dons as a Jonathan Kodjia brace fired the Robins eight points clear of the Sky Bet Championship drop zone.

It was the 11th meeting between the clubs in the 12th season of the Dons’ existence, and a happy journey home for more than 2,000 travelling fans as City won at Stadium MK for the first time.

Kodjia broke the deadlock from close range right at the end of a tense first half and added his second on the hour with an excellent finish, as a makeshift City back four finished the game with a third clean sheet in their last four games.

This match would be Zak Vyner's debut at right-back, with the then 18-year-old replacing Mark Little who was sidelined by a groin injury and Luke Ayling missing due to a knee problem.
