MansionBet Match Preview: Luton Town (A) - 2020/21

Bristol City go in search of ending 2020 with back-to-back wins after picking up all three points against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

It was a result which ended City’s three-game losing streak with the return of their attacking flair, and Dean Holden will be hoping his side can pick up where they left off just three days later away at Luton Town.

In association with City's Principal Partner MansionBet, we take a closer look at the next match...

The hosts would have hoped to have up to 2,000 fans at Kenilworth Road for the fixture but those plans are back on hold after the area entered Tier Four.

After a strong start, the Hatters have been in indifferent form and they sit 15th in the Sky Bet Championship, heading into this final game of the calendar year.

Nathan Jones’ side have won just twice in their last 11 games but City will be wary of their threats and Luton have already taken points taken off the likes of promotion-chasers Norwich City (3-1) and Bournemouth (0-0).

And it was at Kenilworth Road last season that the Hatters stunned a then in-form Robins with a 3-0 home win.

City did get their revenge in a 3-0 victory in the reverse back at Ashton Gate, coincidentally on the same date 12 months ago!

Famara Diédhiou, Marley Watkins and Andreas Weimann were all on the scoresheet that day and while the latter pair will be absent for Tuesday’s encounter, Holden does have Diédhiou on the hunt for his second goal is as many games.

A win for City would see them battle alongside Reading, Stoke and Middlesbrough for a potential sixth place at the turn of the year, while Luton could jump to 11th in the table.

DOWN MEMORY LANE

Bristol City 3-0 Luton Town
Ashton Gate
Sunday, December 29th 2019
Sky Bet Championship

Marley Watkins’ first goal of the season helped City on their way to a comfortable and fully deserved lead over Luton Town at Ashton Gate, as the Robins signed off 2019 and the decade in perfect style.

Watkins headed in from a Niclas Eliasson cross in an electric start to this Sky Bet Championship fixture, before Famara Diédhiou converted a penalty just minutes before half-time.

Luton had been completely shut out while the Robins dictated every element of play and Andreas Weimann’s near-post finish tucked home City’s third goal of the afternoon.

It meant City would return the same scoreline back on the Hatters, after the sides met earlier in the campaign. City climbed to eighth in the Championship standings as a result.
