MansionBet Match Preview: Huddersfield Town 2020/21

Sky Bet Championship football returns to Ashton Gate with Huddersfield Town in BS3 on Tuesday night (January 26th, 7pm KO).

In association with City's Principal Partner MansionBet, we take a closer look at the match...

City overcame the Terriers back in November with Dean Holden's men needing to come from behind at the John Smith's Stadium. The three points arrived thanks to a first professional goal from Jay Dasilva and substitute Jamie Paterson's late strike as the Robins started a four-game unbeaten run to put a poor October behind them.

This time, City head into their Terriers test off the back of a much-deserved win against Millwall in the Emirates FA Cup.

Confidence is one thing but consistency is another and the Robins have struggled to put together a positive run of results. Since November, they've only won back-to-back games on one occasion, at the start of January.

But they have the chance to close the gap on the top six and do the double over Huddersfield in Tuesday night's fixture. In fact, Kasey Palmer has declared the side can only be disappointed should they come away with anything less than three points.

As for the Terriers, Carlos Corberán's team head to Bristol licking their wounds after four defeats in a row. They're winless in 2021 after Reading, Plymouth (FA Cup), Watford and Millwall all inflicted pain on Huddersfield, notably their FA Cup campaign fell at the first hurdle.

Away form needs picking up too, with the West Yorkshire men having picked up just two points on the road since Halloween.

Yet like Holden's men, Huddersfield have suffered a number of injuries with the likes of Christopher Schindler, Tommy Elphick, Jonathan Hogg, Adama Diakhaby and top scorer Josh Koroma all missing. Koroma, who scored against City in November, had five goals in eight games before damaging his hamstring against Sheffield Wednesday in December.

City’s substitutes helped Dean Holden’s men turn the tide at the John Smith’s Stadium, with Jamie Paterson rifling home a later winner to overcome Huddersfield Town 2-1 in November's reverse fixture

The Robins had to come from behind to earn their first win since the start of October. Nahki Wells hit the crossbar but it was Josh Koroma who tucked the home side ahead just before half-time.

But a tactical shuffle helped the Robins find a way back into the game under the Yorkshire lights, with substitute Antoine Semenyo assisting Jay Dasilva to score his first goal for the club.

Semenyo would then hit the post but Dasilva eventually went from scoring to assisting in the same attack, with his cross swept home by substitute Paterson inside the 83rd minute.
