🔎 MansionBet Match Preview: Forest Green Rovers (A)

The Carabao Cup returns presenting City with the relatively short trip to Gloucestershire this Tuesday evening (August 10th, 7.45pm KO).

Forest Green Rovers lie in wait with a journey to the Fully Charged New Lawn in Round One, where the players will be met by a packed out away end.

This will be the first ever competitive match to be played between the two clubs, though they have met twice before in pre-season friendlies.

Both were played at the home of the Green Army; a 3-1 win for the Robins in 2011 followed by a 4-3 victory ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Roll forward to the present and Rob Edwards’ side started their fifth consecutive season in League Two with a 2-1 win over Sutton United on Saturday, thanks to Ebou Adams who scored the 91st minute winner. In fact it was keeping with tradition as, since promotion to the Football League in 2017, Forest Green haven’t lost on the opening day of the campaign.

However, a place in League One alluded them at the play-offs last term. The Green Army have never played in the third tier and they suffered play-off heartbreak for the second time in three seasons when Newport County held on to win 5-4 over the two legs back in May.

While Forest Green celebrated a late winner on Saturday, Nigel Pearson’s side were left frustrated when they conceded an injury-time equaliser to Blackpool. The Robins know they could have put the game to bed, after dominating large periods of play but there was plenty of encouragement from Pearson's new side.

The Robins will return to league action on Saturday when they travel to Middlesbrough (click here for tickets), however Pearson has suggested a reshuffle on the cards for Tuesday's cup tie, as he manages the players' workload so early into the campaign.

Fans are reminded the match is sold out to away fans, with tickets on sale to home supporters on the gate only.

City supporters overseas are urged to purchase a Live Audio pass via Robins TV in order to follow the game on Tuesday night.
