MansionBet Match Preview: Blackburn Rovers (H) (20/21)

Dean Holden's men have the chance to dazzle under the Ashton Gate lights for the visit of Tony Mowbray's in-form Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday.

In partnership with MansionBet, here’s a preview of what you can expect from the fixture in BS3...

It's eighth versus ninth and just two points separating the sides as the table looks as tight as ever in the winter period.

And as the games continue to come thick and fast, it means there has been little time to get too down on Saturday's home defeat to Birmingham City.

Holden was frustrated to concede and ultimately lose the game to a set-piece in a match of few clear-cut chances. There were moments "without the magic" but with their sleeves rolled up, City prepare to go again in midweek.

A response to that defeat would be the perfect outcome and they've already shown that bounce-back attitude this season. However, the group are aware home form can improve as they prepare to host Blackburn - a second, consecutive home game in the Championship - with just one win from their last six matches in BS3.

That said, the Robins face a Blackburn team which hasn't found results on the road easy to come by. Rovers have won three of their eight away Championship matches, with as many defeats and two draws.

But Mowbray's side can boast good form as they head to Ashton Gate unbeaten in their last seven outings. Since losing to Swansea City on Halloween, they have won four and drawn three times, showing guts and grit last time out to earn a point away at Brentford (2-2), even with ten men after the 36th minute.

Blackburn are a team which not only create chances but have a strong finish rate, particularly with Adam Armstrong up front. Armstrong has scored 15 times from 17 appearances in all competitions, with 14 goals from 16 games in the Championship.

However, in defence Blackburn will be without centre-back Scott Wharton who could be out for months following Achilles damage suffered in the draw with Brentford. Darragh Lenihan is also suspended after his red card in West London.

Bristol City 4-1 Blackburn Rovers

Sky Bet Championship

City fought from behind to secure an emphatic first home win of the season, with Famara Diédhiou netting on his return from suspension in a 4-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.

Despite their early dominance at Ashton Gate, City fell behind through a freak corner which sailed straight into the net, courtesy of Charlie Mulgrew, but Josh Brownhill struck a perfect set piece of his own, crashing home a curling free kick to equalise.

Marley Watkins struck in the second-half to finish off a fantastic City move, before Diédhiou - making his first start of the campaign after serving a six-game ban - struck City’s third goal of the match and Pack’s guided header added further daylight late on.

The result sealed City’s third-consecutive win of the campaign and lifted them to sixth in the Sky Bet Championship table.
