City travel north up the M5 to take on the Blues at St Andrews on Tuesday night (7:45pm).
City are currently level on points with Birmingham in the SkyBet Championship table (19), yet the Blues are one place ahead of them thanks to marginally better goal difference.
Lee Bowyer’s side have hit a purple patch of form of later, which has seen them pick up seven points from their last three outings.
After returning from the international break, Birmingham slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion, which was followed by a stalemate draw against Huddersfield Town.
However, their last two fixtures have ended in victory. The first coming in the form of a 2-1 victory at St Andrew’s against Swansea City, and the second being a convincing 2-0 win at the Riverside Stadium against Middleborough.

City ended a 17-game winless run at Ashton Gate with a 2-1 victory against the Tykes on Saturday afternoon.
Barnsley took the lead just before the half-hour mark, as Cauley Woodrow found Devante Cole inside the City box, and he set up Aaron Leya Iseka to smash past Bentley via a deflection.
City equalised soon after, as Nahki Wells’ neat through ball was latched onto by Andi Weimann, and the Austrian smashed past Collins for his fifth goal of the season.
The Robins bagged their eventual winner in added time of the first half. Han-Noah Massengo’s reverse through-ball brilliantly picked out Chris Martin, who in-turn found Weimann to coolly slot home his second goal of the afternoon and seal victory in BS3.
The 29-year-old well-travelled forward has had previous spells at Championship clubs such as Brentford, Aston Villa, Sheffield United, Stoke City and now Birmingham City.
This campaign the Blues’ centre forward has made 13 appearances, finding the back of the net on four occasions with his most recent strike coming at the Riverside Stadium in Birmingham’s 2-0 victory over Middleborough.

Palmer gave City a deserved half-time lead when he unleashed his own counter attack and found the bottom corner with a fine solo goal.
That came after Birmingham twice hit the post through Scott Hogan, with the woodwork coming to City’s rescue after Jérémie Bela found space down the right on both occasions.
But City’s pressing then told when Semenyo closed down Neil Etheridge and the ball bounced back off City’s number 18 and into the open net.
O’Dowda then added further daylight moments after coming off the bench, meeting Palmer's pass before rolling the ball past Etheridge to seal victory at St Andrew’s.
