Magnusson Nets First Iceland Goal

Hordur Magnusson scored his first international goal against Callum O’Dowda’s Republic of Ireland last night.

The Icelandic defender curled a stunning left-footed free kick in the 21st minute at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin.

It proved the only goal of the game and subsequently ended Ireland’s 15-game unbeaten home run.

It was Magnusson’s ninth cap for his country, while O’Dowda was a late replacement for Aiden McGeady – earning his fourth senior cap.

“There is no way to describe the feeling when you score for your country,” said a delighted Magnusson afterwards. “I’m absolutely buzzing right now.”
