Mäenpää enjoying life at 'beautiful' City

City keeper Niki Mäenpää has reflected on the blossoming relationships with his new teammates, ahead of this Sunday's home clash with Sheffield Wednesday (1.30pm).

The shotstopper has played every minute of the Robins' 2018/19 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

He has also kept four clean sheets in that time, the most recent coming in City's 0-0 draw away to Rotherham United on Wednesday night.

"There are always things you can improve but I am really pleased with that and hopefully I can keep many more [clean sheets]," City's summer signing told bcfc.co.uk.

"My relationships, especially with the back four, are getting better day-by-day, game-by-game, and I am looking forward to building an even stronger relationship with them. It’s been growing nicely and steady.

"I’m enjoying my time here," he added. "I’m playing [regularly] which is important for me, especially after three previous years of not playing much [at Brighton & Hove Albion]. Hopefully I can play many more games at this beautiful club."

Next up for City is that home match against Jos Luhukay's Sheffield Wednesday, which will see both sides go head to head in search of a return to winning ways, before the international break.

"I expect a tough game on Sunday," Mäenpää said. "They haven’t won for a couple of games so for sure they will come here wanting to win the game. But so do we and want to get back to winning ways and we have a good chance to win on Sunday.

"It’s important to go into the international break with a good feeling after three points in your pocket. We have to focus and we have to give everything to get the three points at home."

He added City's home support has "been fantastic” and tickets for Sunday's fixture remain on general sale.
