Loan Watch: Morrell shines and Dowling scores

Joe Morrell was named man of the match on his Cheltenham Town debut, while George Dowling made a goalscoring start at Torquay United.

Morrell and Taylor Moore both started Cheltenham’s 1-0 home defeat to Stevenage, with Freddie Hinds coming off the bench in the second half.

Dowling’s early strike looked to have given the Gulls their first win of the season, only for Chester to scramble an equaliser in stoppage time to finish 1-1.

Elsewhere, Scott Golbourne completed 90 minutes for MK Dons in their 1-1 draw with Oxford United at Stadium:MK.

Diego De Girolamo was a second-half substitute in Chesterfield’s goalless draw with Coventry City.

In the National League, Jonny Smith came on with 14 minutes to go as AFC Flyde slipped to a 2-1 defeat at FC Halifax Town.

Aden Baldwin and Ashley Harper, the latter as a substitute, both featured in Weston’s 4-1 defeat at home to Havant & Waterlooville.

There was also defeat for Chippenham Town, losing 4-2 at Eastbourne Borough, where Jake Andrews completed 90 minutes.

Cameron Pring’s loan club Merthyr Town thrashed Willand Rovers 6-1 in Emirates FA Cup qualifying.
