Loan watch: FA Cup third round awaits

Three City players out on loan have progressed to the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.

League Two outfit Newport County left it late but a stoppage-time header was enough to see them through and potentially be drawn against a Premier League side. The goal on Saturday was provided by George Nurse who came off the bench to play 25 minutes against Maldon & Tiptree.

Matty Taylor played 84 minutes in Oxford United’s 1-0 win against Walsall, grabbing the assist in the process, while Rory Holden played the full 90 for Walsall.

And Max O’Leary kept a clean sheet in Shrewsbury Town’s 2-0 win over Mansfield Town.

Forest Green Rovers face a replay with Carlisle after a 2-2 draw on Saturday. Goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott featured.

But there was a cup exit for Jonny Smith with Oldham, who were beaten 1-0 by Burton.

In the Scottish Premiership, Aberdeen rose to third in the table thanks to Zak Vyner’s part in a 2-1 win over St Mirren.

Bath City secured a 3-0 win over Dartford in the Vanarama National League South, with Louis Britton making his debut.

Taunton Town secured a 1-0 win with Zak Smith playing 87 minutes, while Bradd Webb won and converted a penalty to seal a 2-1 win for Yate Town.

And in the Vanarama National League, Torquay United suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Stockport. Robbie Cundy, Saikou Janneh and Connor Evans all featured.
