Steve Cotterill admits it’s looking more likely that Bristol City will be delving into the loan market, as Tuesday’s transfer deadline edges every closer.
In the wake of the 2-1 home defeat to Burnley, the City boss told the media that he could secure two potential deals before Tuesday’s 6pm deadline.
But Cotterill admits the most likely outcome is use of the loan market in a week’s time.
“There’s only potential for loan signings really,” he said.
“There is one signing – a striker – that would be good for us, but whether that one materialises, we’ll see. I don’t want to get people’s hopes up.
“At the moment it’s too expensive for us. We’ll have to see if that price drops by Monday or Tuesday. I’d still be on it to see if we could perhaps turn that one into a loan.
“Another one could be a defender that we could bring in on loan. That one’s been ongoing for a little while now.
“You’re always in the hands of the parent club when it comes to bringing in loan players.
“A lot is made of this (transfer) window, but I think our window of opportunity could happen when this one closes and then reopens in a week for loans.”
Ryan Fredericks, meanwhile, is set for a switch back to London. The former Tottenham Hotspur man will undergo a medical in the capital this weekend, with City poised to recoup the transfer fee they originally outlaid for him in the summer.
