Let's Make Saturday Special - Cotterill

Steve Cotterill says Saturday has the potential to be “another special occasion” for Bristol City in a season already packed with great memories.

Victory over Coventry City at Ashton Gate on Saturday (3pm) would clinch the Sky Bet League One title for the home team. The title could even be secured on Friday without kicking a ball if Preston North End suffer defeat at Port Vale.

Either way, Cotterill senses a special day in BS3 in front of another sell-out crowd.

“There’s a big game on Friday night with Port Vale facing Preston North End and both teams needing a result,” he told Bristol City Player.

“It could happen (that City are crowned champions) before Saturday and that would be great.

“We’ve had plenty of sell outs already this season and it’s been first class so far. Our supporters have been superb up and down the country following us.

“To have nearly 1,000 people at Bradford on Tuesday was brilliant. I’m sure those fans would have got back in the early hours, but they probably had a spring in their step the next morning.”

He added: “If everything goes well for us, it would be really important if our fans could stay off the pitch. That would then enable us time to go and see everybody. If people come on to the pitch then that can’t happen.

“We want to be able to thank everyone who has been with us this season.”

On opponents Coventry, Cotterill said: “Tony (Mowbray) has gone in there and done a good job. I know Tony well and have come up against him many times over the years.

“I’ve no doubts they will be safe come the end of the season.

“We’ve faced Coventry twice already this season so we know what to expect.”
