Lee Johnson says the one thing he would like to inherit from his father Gary is the much-cherished song that sees Bristol City fans bouncing in the stands.
City’s new head coach is keen to be his own man and not to be continually be reminded of his father’s five-and-a-half-year stint in charge at Ashton Gate.
However, he’s more than happy to hear that song once more, which created a terrific atmosphere at City matches up and down the country in the late 2000s.
“If there’s one thing I could take from my dad’s tenure then it’s the ‘Johnson says bounce around the ground’ song,” the 34-year-old told Bristol City Player HD.
“It’s a great song and everybody buzzes off it. It really whips up the atmosphere so please bounce around the ground and stay until the end.
“I would say, though, that I won’t be dancing around like my dad. Every time I saw that happen it made me cringe!”
Johnson revealed he spoke to his father about the job opportunity at Ashton Gate before accepting the post.
He added: "As a father, of course, he's very proud, just as I am of him and his achievements.
“His advice was simple: get yourself down there, son. He knows there’s a great owner and Board here and I think that’s very important when you’re deciding whether to move clubs.
"I've always been around (management), but you also need your own experience. I do feel I've earned my stripes.
“It's time for me to break free of that Gary Johnson mould at Bristol City and kick on as head coach of this fantastic club."
