‘Let’s build on Derby win’ – McAllister

Jamie McAllister wants the squad to build on their midweek display and use it going forward into this afternoon’s trip to Leeds United.

The Robins head into the Sky Bet Championship fixture versus Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites with six wins from their last eight league matches and will be hoping that good form can lead to a positive outcome.

Both sides are flying high in the second tier as the race for the play-offs and promotion intensifies.

“We have to build on that momentum and positive performance,” said McAllister, following City’s 3-2 win over Derby County on Wednesday.

“We’ve added quality with three new players. Markus Henriksen won Man of the Match: he looked very assured, very efficient, he’s good on the ball and he is strong in the middle. Nahki was sharp, has great movement and took his goal well which is massive for him and at the back, Benković has real quality on the ball, he defended well and got his goal.

“They’ve all added so much to the group to make us stronger so I’m looking forward to seeing if they’ll be involved in the next game.”

The Derby fixture saw City show their attacking intent with three goals en route to the three points, as well as a dogged defensive show at the end to prevent the Rams from sneaking a point. It’s those elements of the game which, if mastered, are the perfect combination.

McAllister said: “The mood has been really good. In the dressing room after it was a bit subdued because we were 3-0 up then it went 3-2 but the Gaffer came in, got the boys going and said ‘what a great result it was and how good a performance it was against a very good, in-form Derby team at the moment’. It was a great performance from us and a great three points.

“We’ve been excellent at defending leads over the last few months to be fair, since the good run started…they didn’t panic, we went to 3-2 and a lot of teams would have panicked then, come out of shape but our distances between the lines, the organisation from the team and communication from the group was excellent”
