Lansdown Proud Of Gate Sell-Out

Steve Lansdown has spoken of his pride after seeing more than 25,000 fans packed into Ashton Gate on the final day of the season against Birmingham City.

City’s owner believes the club’s largest league crowd since 1980 - a sell-out of 25,404 - demonstrates the progress that is made in BS3.

Seven league matches in 2016/17 attracted crowds in excess of 20,000 and Lansdown was keen to thank the Robins faithful.

The City owner told Bristol City Player HD: “The attendance on the final days made me very proud and it goes to show the progress we are making throughout the club.

“The last few games of the season were also big crowds, over 20,000, and it shows the demand for football in the city.

“There’s certainly passion for the club. It was great to see all the fans here and I want to thank everyone for coming along and for their support throughout the season.”

City ended the campaign in 17th place, one higher than 2015/16 and two points better off.

Lansdown added: “It is a season of progress and we’ll feel the benefit of it in the summer when we’re recruiting still as a Championship club.

“As we go into next season building on what we’ve achieved this year, we’ll be looking to perform better again.

“The way we’ve come through the last ten games or so has been incredibly good; the team spirit has definitely been there for all to see.

“Obviously there was a lot of noise throughout the season but the supporters really stuck with the club and helped us get through it. We’re very thankful for that.”
