Lansbury is a Robin

Henri Lansbury has joined Bristol City for the remainder of the season after completing a move from Aston Villa.

Lansbury links up with Dean Holden’s side in their push for the play-offs after putting pen to paper on a short-term deal as a free agent.

The 30-year-old midfielder brings more quality to the squad, two seasons after he helped Villa reach the Premier League, while he also helped Norwich and West Ham United to promotion into the top flight.

City Chief Executive Officer Mark Ashton said: “We are delighted to welcome a player of Henri’s quality and experience. There were a number of clubs in for him and we are pleased that we managed to secure him. He has a proven track record both in the Premier League and at Championship level and I strongly believe he can help us with a big push in this second half of the season.”

Robins Head Coach Holden said: “Henri will add to the group both on and off the pitch. He’s a fantastic character, someone I’ve always admired for the way he plays the game. He’s a fantastic passer of the ball, and he can create and score goals too.”

Lansbury’s career started at Arsenal where he progressed through the Academy to make his debut in the Carling Cup of the 2007/08 season under Arsene Wenger. He also went on to win the 2008/09 FA Youth Cup with the Gunners.

Loans at Scunthorpe, Watford, Norwich and West Ham United followed and he helped Norwich win promotion to the Premier League in 2011. He then picked up a Championship play-off winners’ medal with the Hammers as his side regained Premier League status in 2012.

Lansbury left Arsenal permanently that summer, when he was signed by Nottingham Forest. He played 150 games, scoring 33 times in all competitions for the Tricky Trees, before moving to Aston Villa in January 2017.

On the international stage, Lansbury was a runner-up with England at the UEFA European Under19 Championships in 2009.
