Bristol City Women were today celebrating the FA Women’s Super League’s new multi-million pound partnership with banking giant Barclays.
The partnership between Barclays and FA Women’s Super League marks the start of a new era of women’s football in England and Bristol City Women will see benefit as they continue their journey in the top flight.
The investment will allow Bristol City Women to take strides forward both on and off the field as well as seeing grassroots football across the country flourish says Bristol City Chief Executive Officer Mark Ashton.
“The partnership is a huge step forward for women’s football and I’m delighted Bristol City Women are at the forefront of this and will benefit from such investment,” said Ashton.
"Tanya Oxtoby’s side are having a successful season, both on and off the pitch, and we are excited about this development for the league and club.
"Not only should this enhance the FA Women’s Super League itself, making it a recognised division globally, but it will hopefully make a positive difference at grassroots level, which is equally as important."
"It’s very promising to read that Barclays share the same core values and principles that we do as a club. We all have an obligation to inspire the next generation and this investment will pave the way for more young girls to get involved in women’s football."
Bristol City manager Tanya Oxtoby said: “The partnership between the FA Women’s Super League and Barclays will be brilliant for women’s football and will allow the game to take the next step on a professional level.
“It’s also very promising to read that Barclays share the same core values and principles that we do as a club. We all have an obligation to inspire the next generation and this investment will pave the way for more young girls to get involved in women’s football.”
Bristol City Women’s general manager Kathryn Pacey said: “The introduction of Barclays as the title sponsor of the FA WSL is a huge development in the women’s game and one which will bring an increased awareness and exposure as we look to grow our audience and fanbase.
“It is a hugely exciting time for women’s football and this landmark partnership highlights the increased professionalism and the direction that the game is heading in. Bristol City Women are looking forward to working with Barclays as we plan ahead for the 2019/20 season in the Barclays FA WSL.”
