Willie Kirk hopes City Women supporters can turn out in numbers once again as the WSL 1 Season fast approaches, with the Vixens’ first away game against Chelsea on Saturday, September 30th.

With three of the club’s home games attracting attendances over 1,000 during the Spring Series, the manager hopes for much the same this season.

Speaking during the first week of pre-season, Kirk said: “Every game is difficult in its own right this season and travelling to Chelsea away first up is very exciting. They won the Spring Series so it’s a really tough start but one the players will be up for.

“Following that, the week after we kick-off our home campaign with a local derby against Yeovil which makes it a tough game in itself.

“The Spring Series was a really good example of how big a part the fans play, some of our best performances were in front of big crowds here and at Ashton Gate.

“We want as many people here as possible because the players get energy from it and the feedback I get is that we play an entertaining brand of football.”

The City Women players have returned at different points over the last few weeks, due to international duty, but the Vixens manager insists it won’t hamper preparations.

He added: “We always knew our pre-season was going to be in different phases and we were prepared for it. The players that have been in are getting up to speed and those that have now joined us will undergo testing.

“The first day of pre-season is a special one, everyone is excited but a little bit nervous. My aim is to integrate the new signings as soon as possible, we have a few more to announce in the near future so we have seven weeks to all get ready as a group for the new season.”
