Kalas’ Czech Republic undone by late Ukraine winner

City defender Tomas Kalas completed 90 minutes for the Czech Republic in their narrow defeat to Ukraine.

The Czech Republic suffered an injury-time nightmare as Ukraine took the League B Uefa's Nations League spoils 2-1 with a late winner.

City defender, who has impressed against Swansea City and Blackburn Rovers since joining on loan from Chelsea, took the No 3 shirt and played the whole game at the Mestsky Fotbalovy Stadion.

Manchester City midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko scored the clincher from close range in the third minute of added time after a mix-up between goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik and defender Jakub Brabek.

The Czech Republic had taken the lead in the fourth minute through Roma striker Patrik Schick's clever run and finish.

Schalke winger Yevhen Konoplyanka equalised for Ukraine just before half-time as Zinchenko netted the winner.

The Czech Republic’s next fixture is a friendly against Russia in Rostov on Monday (September 10th).
