Johnson's Praise For 'Outstanding' Paterson

Lee Johnson has told Jamie Paterson “the world is your oyster” – providing the winger can sustain his current form.

The summer signing has started City’s last three games, scoring in the home victories over QPR and Wolves before playing the killer ball at the end of a 31-pass move to assist Tammy Abraham’s goal at Blackburn Rovers.

The renaissance of the 25-year-old comes after three months out of the starting line-up.

“Pato has been in outstanding form in the last three games and it’s been a pleasure to watch him,” Johnson told Bristol City Player HD.

“I said to him the other day the world is his oyster. If he plays like that, with his reaction to transition and his ability on the ball – and always getting into goalscoring positions – he could go all the way to the Premier League.

“Something’s happened with him in the last six to eight weeks. He’s always been a technically good player, but he’s really had the bit between his teeth.

“He actually got himself back in the team about four weeks before everyone saw him back in the team, but he got injured on the Friday.

“He was devastated because he’d been working so hard. Through being as good as he was in training, you couldn’t turn a blind eye to him.

“He’s a very, very good trainer when he’s at it. He was at it then and he’s at it at the moment.

“I’ve been absolutely delighted with him over this period of not just two or three weeks, but eight to ten weeks when unfortunately he had that injury in the middle of it.”

City could secure their Sky Bet Championship status when they host Barnsley at Ashton Gate tomorrow (3pm). Tickets are on general sale – call 0117 963 0600 or secure your seat online.
