Johnson's Challenge To His Players

Lee Johnson has challenged his City players to become history-makers at Fulham tonight (7.45pm).

Not since 1989, when City reached the League Cup semi-finals, have the club progressed beyond the third round of this competition.

But that could all change at Craven Cottage this evening, as City tackle their Championship rivals for a place in the fourth round.

“It’s going to be a difficult test because they’re one of the big hitters in the division, financially,” Johnson told Bristol City Player HD.

“We’ve already broken a few mini-records this season, with attendances and the number of international players we’ve got.

“We’ve got a sheet up in the dressing room of all the records the players have broken in the last decade.

“Tonight we have a chance to get another milestone by getting ourselves into the fourth round of the EFL Cup.”

City’s head coach will have plenty of family at Craven Cottage for the cup tie, and his team will return to West London for a league fixture three days later.

Hordur Magnusson (toe) and Joe Bryan (glute) are both likely to miss out, while Jamie Paterson is cup-tied.

Taylor Moore and Gustav Engvall are poised to make their debuts, with Johnson hinting at ringing the changes for the third round encounter.

He added: “I’m actually excited to see some of our players play. We’ve got a squad of 24 and it’s not easy to keep everyone happy. I’ve got to juggle it.”
