Johnson speaks of pride for young Lion

Academy graduate Lloyd Kelly returns to league action after captaining the England Under-20s in the latest international break.

Kelly also trained with Gareth Southgate’s senior side as his football experience grows for someone still only 20-years-old.

Also involved for their respective countries in the last fortnight were Jay Dasilva with England U21s, Joe Morrell and Connor Evans (Wales U21s), Rory Holden (Northern Ireland U21s) and Callum O’Dowda (Republic of Ireland).

O’Dowda was forced to miss out on Ireland’s match against Wales after feeling unwell in the match against Denmark last week. However, he is now on the road to recovery after continued assessments and he is due to return to training on Friday.

“Lloyd stands out because he’s a home-grown product but any international recognition is good and we’ve had a lot of that,” Johnson told bcfc.co.uk.

“Morrell and Evans scored for Wales on Tuesday night which was good too, so the more accolades they can get as individuals is credit to the work we are all doing and, more importantly, the work of the Academy.

“We’re hugely proud of Lloyd, not just for captaining England but for the way he has taken to Championship football at such a young age.”
