Lee Johnson wants to see “bright, energetic football” from his side as they return to action at Preston North End tonight (7.45pm).
After a vapid first-half display at Brentford was punished with a 2-0 reverse on Saturday, Johnson says he’s happy City have another game so soon after the setback, giving them an opportunity to put things right.
After a “full stop” meeting aimed at righting the Griffin Park wrongs, City’s team bus travelled to the North West yesterday in preparation for the Deepdale encounter.
Johnson told Bristol City Player HD: “I’m pleased we’ve got another game so soon after the Brentford game because it’s something I’m hungry to put right, and so are the players.
“Preston are a strong side and have been one of the success stories this year.
“They’ve got a good balance of experience and young players. They’re solid in their approach to the game; no-frills at the back, plus quality and speed going forward.
“Like in all Championship games, if you don’t turn up and perform you’ll get beaten. We need to turn up and take the opportunities to exploit our opposition.
“We must be bright, energetic and enjoy our football. We weren’t in the first half at Brentford, but we were in the second – and that’s what we need to take into the Preston game.”
Bailey Wright swapped Deepdale for Ashton Gate in January and make his first return to his old stomping ground tonight.
Johnson added: “Naturally you’ll use everything you can to do your due diligence on the opposition.
“Of course we’ve spoken to Bailey because he’ll know the intricate details of Preston, both individually and as a team.
“Any manager would be mad not to use that as an information source.”
City supporters will be able to pay on the night at Deepdale.
