Lee Johnson will sit down for talks with trialist Aaron Pierre in the next 24 hours.
The out-of-contract defender, who was one of the stars of the show at Wycombe Wanderers last season, has spent a week on trial at Ashton Gate.
Pierre featured in both pre-season friendlies over the weekend, helping to keep a pair of clean sheets, albeit against non-league opposition in Guernsey and Bristol Manor Farm.
When quizzed about the next step on BCTV, Johnson said: "I need to talk to Aaron.
"I always said I would have a conversation with him after the two friendlies.
"I thought he did very well at Manor Farm.
"There are always difficult decisions to make; to bring him in or not; whether to put an offer on the table because he has got three or four offers from other places.
"He’s a lovely character and a great guy to have around. It’s hard to tell because he hasn’t been tested at Championship level but he’s certainly got qualities that are Championship."
