Johnson On 'Dangerous' Barnsley

Lee Johnson says his former club Barnsley have plenty of “dangerous” players who need to be shackled tomorrow (3pm).

The City head coach is preparing to make his first visit back to Oakwell, having left to takeover at Ashton Gate in January.

Johnson does have the benefit of knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the majority of the Barnsley squad.

And he told Bristol City Player HD: “You look at the Barnsley squad and they’ve got a lot of energy and talent.

“The likes of (Conor) Hourihane, (Josh) Scowen, (Marley) Watkins and (Sam) Winnall – they’re all dangerous players."

City will take some comfort from the fact Hourihane and Scowen will both serve suspensions this weekend, while reports suggest a sickness bug going around Oakwell may also rule out a number of other players.

Johnson continued: “We recruited well when I was there and that has continued. On a personal note I’m pleased with how well they’ve coped in the Championship, but we’ll have to be ready tomorrow.

“They haven’t changed much as a team. The manager Paul Heckingbottom is a really good coach and they’ve done well as a group.

“It’s a game I’m looking forward to because we’ve got good players and they’ll have to worry about us as well.”
