Johnson Left Frustrated By Leeds Opener

Lee Johnson felt a big decision went against his team as City slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Leeds United.

With the game still goalless in the 27th minute, the City head coach felt skipper Bailey Wright was fouled before referee Andy Davies instead awarded a free kick to the hosts.

Eunan O’Kane found Chris Wood from the set-piece before the visitors had time to settle, and the striker buried the chance to fire his team in front.

Pablo Hernandez added Leeds’ second goal two minutes after half-time with a shot that took a cruel deflection off Aden Flint, while substitute Milan Djuric pulled one back for City after a series of chances went unconverted.

“I’m very frustrated,” Johnson told Bristol City Player HD. “The lads have given it a right go, but the first goal is very important – particularly away at a big club like this – and it was a foul on Bailey Wright.

“He’s had his ankles clipped and been pushed straight in the back. We need those decisions but we haven’t got it, and there’s been all too many of them.

“We had chances throughout the game. I’m pleased Milan got us a goal – I know it was only a consolation but he deserved it and had two or three good opportunities to stick it in at the far post.

“The 14 players who played tonight have worked their socks off. The fans have given them a big clap and they never stopped singing.

“They could see the players were going at it hammer and tongs until the end. We’ve got 15 big games left and everybody’s up for it.”

Johnson revealed Tammy Abraham will need a scan on his injured thigh after City’s leading scorer was substituted in the first half, while Mark Little came off at the interval with a hamstring problem.
