Johnson lands LMA award for cup upset

Lee Johnson has picked up the LMA Performance of the Week award from the League Managers Assocation.

The LMA’s five-man panel, comprising chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, has determined that the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to City for their incredible 2-1 victory against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.

City boss Lee Johnson will receive a celebratory bottle of champagne, courtesy of Tanners Wines, and an LG Performance of the Week trophy in a presentation to commemorate the result.

Korey Smith's 93rd minute goal sealed a memorable night at Ashton Gate, sending City through to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, at the expense of United.

A thunderbolt from Joe Bryan gave City the lead early in the second half before Zlatan Ibrahimovic drew level with a free kick seven minutes later.

But Smith’s late strike sent holders United packing in a match where City more than matched their Premier League opponents.

It means City have equaled their historic 1988/89 run to the semi-finals and now a two-legged clash with Manchester City awaits.
