Lee Johnson says his excitement for the new season has only increased with the release of the new fixture list.
Bristol City will kick-off the new campaign against promoted League One pair, Wigan Athletic at home and Burton Albion away.
Then comes a run of three straight matches against the teams relegated from the Premier League; Norwich City away before mouth-watering home games against Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
“It’s always exciting when the fixture list comes out and it’s no different this year,” Johnson said.
“It’s a brilliant August, with a complete spectrum of new teams. Wigan and Burton did very well to secure their place in the Championship and then of course we have three games in a row against the teams dropping out of the Premier League.
“Newcastle is the one that jumps out at you because they are such a huge club and I’m sure most fans will look forward to the away trip there (February 25th). I remember us going up there before and hanging on for a goalless draw; it was like the Alamo!”
Johnson is also excited for the Severnside derby encounters with Cardiff City, which fall on October 15th (away) and January 14th (home).
He added: “For me as a head coach, it’s strange because you instantly try and map out where you think the wins could come, but you know in reality it doesn’t work like that.
“It’s all about your attitude on the day and getting it right. That’s a really important factor.
“What we’ve got at the moment in the club is a good feeling about the place, and if everyone is together you can move mountains. There’s a nice alignment of fans, players, board and staff; it’s positive moving forward.”
