Lee Johnson says Wes Burns fully deserves his call-up for Wales’ pre-Euro 2016 training camp.
The Bristol City head coach sent Burns on loan to Fleetwood Town a couple of weeks after taking charge, and the youngster went on to score five goals in 14 appearances for the Cod Army.
His electric form and pace caught the eye of Wales boss Chris Coleman, who previously promoted Burns from the Under-21s to the full squad due to injuries in March.
Johnson told bcfc.co.uk: "I’m chuffed for Wes and hopefully he can push as hard as possible to get a call-up for the Euros this summer.
"He’s improved so much in the last year or so – as a footballer and a lad – and deserves this opportunity at international level.
"His immediate challenge is to do as much as he can to impress Chris Coleman and get himself on the plane to France.
"We look forward to having him back with us in pre-season. He’ll want to fight for his place because we’re moving very quickly. We will sign players but we want our young players to be competitive, like Bobby Reid has been towards the end of the season."
Burns will join up with the 29-man Wales squad on May 23rd in the Algarve. By the end of the month, boss Coleman will need to slim down his 23 to take to France as the Red Dragons compete at the Euros for the first time in their history.
