Lee Johnson says his City side have been buoyed by the return to form and fitness of some of their best players.
Top scorer Tammy Abraham made his comeback from injury in the 1-0 win at Wigan Athletic on Saturday, while Gary O’Neil and Korey Smith, two of the leaders of the team, are also back in the fold.
City have lost only one of their last five matches ahead of tonight’s Sky-televised clash with high-flying Huddersfield Town at Ashton Gate (7.45pm).
“The lads were in good spirits at the end of the Wigan game and that’s carried on,” Johnson told Bristol City Player HD.
“I think our form has been encouraging over the last three games – we’ve had two clean sheets and looked quite comfortable defensively.
“We’ve got goals in us, I’ve always said that, but for me a big thing has been to have a few key players back to their best.
“Korey Smith has been injured for most of the year but I feel like we’ve got the real Korey Smith back now, which is massive for us.
“Gary O’Neil has been outstanding over the last three or four games and Tommo (Lee Tomlin) is looking back to his best.
“Every game in the Championship is tough, but every game is winnable. I’m buoyed and encouraged by our form over that mini period when I feel I’ve got my best players back to their best – that’s the key.”
City will climb out of the bottom three by avoiding defeat against the Terriers, with none of their rivals in action until the weekend.
“I’m very positive going into the game with the belief that we can get a result,” Johnson added.
“If you win the game it gives you a nice weekend – that’s we want and that’s what we’ll be trying to do.
“We’ve got to focus on ourselves because there are going to be teams down there who pick up wins and draws.
“We’ve got nine games to make sure we finish outside of those places and retain our Championship status.”
