Boyhood City supporter Andy King made his Ashton Gate bow in front of 7,589 home fans as City rounded off their pre-season fixture calendar against Aston Villa.
It was a 3-0 defeat but a game where City pushed and pressed their Premier League opponents all the way, particularly in the second half.
King played an hour on the BS3 turf and reflecting on the afternoon the midfielder believes the squad has got what it needs from a six-game pre-season, including a Loughborough University training camp.

He told Robins TV: “It was good, the disappointing thing is the result though because all three goals were avoidable. We’re disappointed with those sloppy goals but there were positives as well: we created numerous chances, we had a lot of the ball but when you make mistakes in defensive areas against Premier League team you will get punished.
“We need to eradicate hose this week but ultimately this was about getting minutes, getting through another game and touch wood we’ve come through it with no injuries. We’re buzzing to get started next week.
“We’re all delighted to have the fans back and for me it was an unbelievable feeling to walk out to the fans, to play in the Bristol City shirt and now I can’t wait to get started next week.
“We’ve worked hard in the last few weeks, we’ve given everything and it’s a disappointing result today. We wanted to send the fans home happy, we didn’t but I hope they can see the improvements from last year and we’ll try to build on that going into the season.”
City’s campaign starts on Saturday when Blackpool visit BS3 to kick off the 2021/22 Sky Bet Championship season. Han-Noah Massengo and Joe Williams are scheduled to train fully next week ahead of potential selection for Blackpool.
