Interview: The importance of gym work

Head of Strength and Conditioning Derrick Bonsu gives an insight into a lower-body gym session.

At the end of a day of two football sessions and a gruelling high-speed running exercise, Bonsu guided the players who finished the Celtic match through 30 minutes of exercise at the Holywell Sports Centre.

Bonsu explained: “We want to be strong, robust and resistant to fatigue. It’s a game of 90 minutes and those players need to perform those high-speed and high-velocity actions into the dying minutes of the game.”
