INTERVIEW: Emslie excited for Spring Series opener at Ashton Gate

Bristol City Women take on Reading in a double-header with Bristol City on Saturday, April 22nd (KO 6pm).

“All of us can’t wait to get started and test ourselves against WSL 1 opposition,” said Vixen’s forward Clair Emslie.

“We have had a good pre-season and the Spring Series will give us a good indication of where we are at and what we need to improve on going forward,” added the 22-year-old.

Emslie arrived in June 2016 from America where she had been studying at Florida Atlantic University; beforehand she had previously played under current Manager Willie Kirk at Hibernian from the age of 15.

“None of us have played at Ashton Gate before, we watched the men play on Friday and it was good to get a feel for the ground and the atmosphere, it was buzzing.”

The Scottish born forward says the team are aware of the threat that Reading will bring.

“They are a well drilled side who are tough to break down, it’s going to be physical and we will need to be 100% focused right from that first whistle,” she said.

Emslie says the squad appreciates all of the support the squad has received upon promotion back to WSL 1 and hopes for much of the same during the Spring Series.

“They were great last year.

“As a squad we were so happy we could repay them and get promoted. Now we are back in WSL 1 we want to continue performing and repaying the faith they put in us.”

Tickets for Saturday’s Spring Series opener are available via Tickets.Bristol-Sport.co.uk.

All season card holders and matchday ticket holders for the Bristol City v Barnsley game will be able to stay behind to watch the City Women game for FREE.

For those who are just coming for the women’s game, turnstiles open at 5:15pm in the West Stand only (turnstiles 6-10).
