In brief: Pre-Crystal Palace press conference

Lee Johnson met the media ahead of Tuesday night's Carabao Cup fourth round tie with Premier League Crystal Palace.

The City head coach answered questions from the local and national press along with Hordur Magnusson.

Here's what they had to say:

LEE JOHNSON

  • The head coach confirms the club have appealed Matty Taylor’s red card and they should receive an answer from the Football Association in the next five-six hours
  • His side have learnt their lesson from Saturday’s defeat to Leeds United and need to move on quickly
  • Johnson says the squad are “depleted” with underlying niggles
  • Milan Djuric could feature tomorrow night having completed 45 minutes for the Under-23s on Friday evening, while Famara Diedhiou is fresh
  • The City boss knows Crystal Palace will prove tough opponents, particularly under the guidance of Roy Hodgson
  • Korey Smith is expected to be back in contention for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship trip to Sunderland
  • Jamie Paterson has returned to the training ground after his illness, but has lost a lot of weight

HORDUR MAGNUSSON

  • Magnusson is delighted to qualify for the World Cup with Iceland and is looking forward to testing himself against some of the biggest national teams
  • The Iceland international says Saturday’s defeat was difficult, but the team are now fully focused on the Carabao Cup
  • Of Crystal Palace, Magnusson says they are a strong squad and knows it will be a difficult test
  • Having overcome two Premier League clubs in the previous rounds, the defender believes it gives the squad some added confidence
