In-brief: Birmingham City (A)

Lee Johnson and Eros Pisano preview Saturday's trip to St Andrew's.

Here's a summary of what the head coach and right-back had to say.

Lee Johnson

  • Reflecting on the 1-1 draw at Millwall last weekend, Johnson said City were "competitive, strong and limited them to little."
  • He noted City's "excellent build-up play" but stressed his side need to be more clinical in the final third.
  • He was pleased his players "gave everything" and felt his side were "unlucky not to win the game."
  • Johnson says his squad are "not a million miles away" from where he wants them to be but stressed they are "still a new team" considering the number of new faces since the summer.
  • He praised partnerships within the squad, notably Tomas Kalas and Adam Webster, Josh Brownhill and Marlon Pack as well as Lloyd Kelly and Niclas Eliasson.
  • He's looking for the squad to go on a run and believes City can be the team who pick up form after Christmas.
  • Focusing on this weekend's trip to St Andrew's, the head coach said Birmingham City are playing “effective football” and that Gary Monk is doing well. He believes the match will be “difficult for both sides.”

Eros Pisano

  • Pisano says he is "happy to be back and help the team" after being ruled out with a hip flexor injury earlier in the season.
  • He described the Millwall match as a "difficult game" adding City deserved more from the fixture.
  • Looking ahead to Saturday he said: "We will try our best at Birmingham."
  • Pisano said the squad has a mix of quality and aggressive players, noting the physical side to his game.
  • Pisano described football in England as "more physical and quicker" compared to in Italy where it is "more tactical."
  • As a right-back, he said he thinks about defending and the clean sheet before getting forward to support the attack.

Birmingham City v Bristol City kicks off at 3pm this Saturday (December 8th).
