Josh Brownhill can’t wait to pull on a Bristol City shirt for the first time next Sunday (July 10th) against Hengrove Athletic (2pm).
The midfielder took part in his first training session at Failand yesterday since making the switch from Sky Bet Championship rivals Preston North End.
The 20-year-old rekindled his relationship with head coach Lee Johnson who signed him on loan at Barnsley in January and feels it won’t take long for him to show City supporters what he is all about.
“I really can’t wait to play,” he told Bristol City Player HD.
“I’m raring to go straight away. I feel fit, ready and a few more training sessions will help before that game.
"It’s always going to take time to get going in the first game and I might be a bit rusty but after that I can kick on and show my full potential.”
Brownhill met his new team-mates, who were given a glowing reference from former players Greg Cunningham and Callum Robinson, for the first time yesterday.
The Warrington-born youngster has yet to experience a pre-season at a club other than Preston, but says the new environment hasn’t amended his mindset.
“Not much changes really. I’ve still come back fit and raring to go,” he said.
“I didn’t know anyone coming in here but they seem to have taken to me quite well and have helped me settle in quite quickly.
“The boys have come back really sharp and all seem quite lively. It was a great buzz to get started in a new place - next Sunday can’t come quick enough!”
Tickets for City’s annual Community Match against Hengrove Athletic can be purchased here.
Season Tickets for the 2022/23 campaign are selling at a record pace, with more than 9,000 supporters already committed.
