Aden Flint says he never dreamt he would score 12 goals for Bristol City this season.
Only Aaron Wilbraham and Matt Smith have contributed more goals to City’s double-winning campaign, with Kieran Agard tied with the big centre-half on 12.
Flint headed the crucial second in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Chesterfield, taking a whack to the face in the process.
Speaking on Bristol City Player, Flint said: “If someone had said to me in pre-season that I’d score 12 for the season then I’d have to pinch myself to wake up. I never dreamt for a minute I’d get 12 goals.
“I enjoy chipping in to help the boys win games. To be fair Packy (Marlon Pack) and Freezy (Luke Freeman) have been brilliant all season with their delivery.
“The set-pieces have been fantastic. It’s harder to miss when the ball is always in the right place.
“I’m black and bruised now. The keeper missed the ball and nearly punched my head off. But I’ll take that for another goal!”
City can now look forward to receiving the Sky Bet League One trophy on Sunday when Walsall provide the opposition for the final game of the season.
Ashton Gate will be packed to the rafters, having sold out weeks ago.
“The fans were vocal from the warm up and throughout at Chesterfield,” Flint added. “They’ve been massive all season.
“It’s going to be a great day all round against Walsall. It’s a big day at Ashton Gate to cap off the season.
“We started the season with 16 games unbeaten and we want to end the campaign with the same. Then we can take that into next season.”
