Hunting for more assists

Jack Hunt can look back on a successful afternoon after providing the crosses which led to City’s two goals against Exeter City.

The right-back’s first cross picked out Jamie Paterson to get City off the mark, before his second assist found Antoine Semenyo at the near post late into the second half.

As a result, City enter the draw for the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Reflecting on his afternoon’s work, Hunt said: “I think crossing is a strength of mine but I also need service. I got a great pass from Andi (for the first goal) and I kept it alive and spotted a good run from Antoine (for the second goal). Nahki was a bit disappointed I didn’t pass to him but the service to me was great and I will happily try my best to make some assists.”

Saturday’s curtain raiser was the first competitive game for the group under the management of Dean Holden, alongside his new assistants Paul Simpson and Keith Downing. And their influence is already being felt.

They are setting the way they want the team to play and the players, as Hunt explains, showed they are taking everything on board.

Hunt added: “Dean’s been manager now for four weeks. Simo and Keith have come in and stamped their authority in how they want us to play, what they want us to do.

“As much as it was competitive first game and we wanted to win, we also wanted to show what we’ve been working on and I think we did that well today.

“It’s competitive and while the season is shorter but I feel we have the squad for it. There will be rotation this season, especially in a formation like that it takes a lot of running, a lot of hard work and we’ve worked on that. I think we’re as fit as we have been in a long time.”
