Holden Taps Into Bees Knowledge

Dean Holden is hoping to put his knowledge of the Brentford coaching staff to good use when the Bees visit Ashton Gate tomorrow night (Tuesday, 7.45pm).

Holden was a player at Walsall between 2012 and 2014, when Dean Smith – now Brentford boss – was in charge at the Banks’s Stadium. During that period Smith was assisted by Richard O’Kelly, who decided to resign from his post supporting Sean O’Driscoll at Ashton Gate to return to Walsall.

Now Holden is set to pit his wits against his old boss, working in Lee Johnson’s management team at Ashton Gate alongside John Pemberton.

“I think it helps a little bit that I know how Dean and Rich operate,” Holden told Bristol City Player HD.

“I’ve followed their careers, leaving Walsall to move to Brentford just over a year ago. They’re two good guys who are doing a good job at Brentford now.

“Their recent results have been a bit up and down. They were beaten heavily by Norwich City (5-0) but then bounced back at the weekend with a good win (2-1 over Burton Albion).

“We’ve watched their last five matches and will be prepared for the game with the right due diligence.

“We’ve got togetherness in the group and the intensity in training is good. There’s pressure to get results at home but that’s a pressure we put on ourselves.”

Gary O’Neil is expected to shake off a knock to retain his place in the squad.
