Holden highlights feel-good factor in Robins camp

Dean Holden has shone light on the high spirits in the City squad, as they look to build on Saturday’s positive display when they take on Huddersfield Town at Ashton Gate tomorrow evening (January 26th, 7pm KO).

City’s forwards capped off a strong showing as City knocked Millwall out of the Emirates FA Cup. Holden made six changes for the cup tie in South London and his players impressed as Famara Diédhiou, Nahki Wells and Antoine Semenyo deservedly sent the Robins into the Fifth Round.

Tuesday is all about the prospect of three points as attentions turn back to the Sky Bet Championship, and the chance to secure back-to-back wins for the second time this month.

 

“There’s a real good feeling around on the back of a fantastic win on Saturday,” Head Coach Holden told Robins TV. “After the number of changes, you want the lads to come in and grab their opportunity. Some of our attacking game was very good on the day, now we’re looking for more of that tomorrow, more improvement again in a tough game against Huddersfield.

“Every one of them came in and performed which is why we got a really good win. The clean sheet was good for confidence and some of the attacking play was outstanding, so the job now is to go and pick a team to win the next one.”

Holden hailed his younger players and those who came back into the side after a period out of the starting XI.

He said: “They’re hungry for improvement, they want to learn, they ask questions and they’re honest enough about their own performances so that gives you an opportunity as a young player to make big strides in the game.

“I’m pleased with the guys from the weekend, Max O’Leary was another, Taylor Moore hadn’t played for a while so all the guys are putting in good performances and that’s the pleasing thing.”

It gives Holden a potential selection headache for the Tuesday night’s fixture with the Terriers, who City came from behind to beat in November thanks to goals from Jay Dasilva and Jamie Paterson.

He added: “We saw in the game at Huddersfield what a good team they can be: they play with aggression, lots of energy, they’re man for man in how they defend and it’s a different challenge for us tomorrow, so the job is to pick a team that can go and get the three points.”

Both teams have a number of players missing through injury. Holden has confirmed that Steven Sessegnon (hamstring) and Paterson (groin) are now back in training, while Joe Williams will feature in the Under-23s’ game against Swansea City tomorrow (Tuesday).

The Robins take on Huddersfield Town at Ashton Gate at 7pm on Tuesday, with all the action live on Robins TV. The build-up starts with the matchday show streaming at 6.30pm.
