Hat-trick for Gordano School

Gordano School have qualified for the regional finals of the EFL Sport+Kinder Cup for the third year running.

Bristol City Community Trust hosted the preliminary round of the national competition at South Bristol Sports Centre on Monday, with 16 teams from ten secondary schools across South Bristol and North Somerset competing.

Despite facing tough competition from St Bernadette’s in the final, Gordano School went on to record a 3-0 victory, cementing their place at the regional stage of the competition, where they will represent Bristol City in Newport.

Should they advance, as they did last year, the players will come up against their northern counterparts at Wembley ahead of the Checkatrade Trophy final.

Tournament organiser Jon Pinches said: “It was a brilliant day and not only was the quality on display to a great standard, but the 148 players played with smiles on their faces and there was a real sense of community.

“The competition is a superb advertisement for girls football and we witnessed some fantastic goals, saves and teamwork.

“Gordano were fantastic throughout the tournament and we wish them the best of luck in the future rounds.”

More than 6,000 girls take part in the Under-13s six-a-side competition organised on behalf of the EFL and the EFL Trust each year, with the overriding aim to get more youngsters involved in physical activity and promote the importance of an active lifestyle.
