Ben Hamer says he “jumped at the chance” to sign for his boyhood club.
The goalkeeper joined on a season-long loan from Leicester City on Tuesday after becoming third choice at the King Power, and expressed his excitement at joining the team he supported as a child.
Hamer made his debut in the Capital One Cup defeat to Luton Town, but can’t wait to put on a City shirt again and make the most of the opportunity.
He told Bristol City Player HD: “I got the phone call from my agent to say Bristol City wanted to do a loan and I jumped at the chance.
“I supported City as a kid and my old man used to take me down Ashton Gate to watch the games, but as I got older I got more into football and left home at 16 so haven’t been down the Gate since then.”
He added: “I found myself in a situation at Leicester where I fell down the pecking order and it’s not nice because you want to play football.
“You can’t just sit around and mope, that’s not what I’m about. I’d rather go out and play games so I’m glad this opportunity at City has come up.”
Hamer started his career at Reading and was loaned out on four occasions to tomorrow’s opponents Brentford.
The 27-year-old made 79 appearances for the Bees and helped them to win the 2007/08 Sky Bet League Two title.
“I went on loan there a few years on the bounce when I was between 19 and 22,” he said.
“They’ve come on a lot since I’ve been there and did well last year. It’s a good game to look forward to, but hopefully they’ll come down to the Gate and we can turn them over.”
