Bristol City loanee Ben Gladwin has returned to QPR after suffering a recurrence of a knee injury.
The midfielder appeared just once for City in the 1-0 defeat against Leeds United at Elland Road.
Gladwin returned to his parent club in February to have his knee assessed and was passed fit to return to training at Failand after an injection.
However, the former Swindon Town man has since suffered pain in his problematic knee and is now back in London.
City are unable to cancel Gladwin’s loan but, subject to medical advice back at Loftus Road, the 23-year-old looks likely to need an operation, meaning a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
"Even though the deal for Ben cannot be undone, his going back might mean we now look to recruit in a certain area,” head coach Lee Johnson confirmed.
"He has gone back to QPR to be assessed and he will potentially need an operation. He felt something in his knee again and that's when he took the decision to send him back.”
There’s better news for Luke Ayling, who is back in training after knee surgery. Ayling actually travelled with the squad to Nottingham Forest on Saturday but it was too soon to take a place on the bench.
