Zak Vyner and Lloyd Kelly formed a tight-knit friendship through the Academy and progressed to the first team together, but now they potentially face each other on Wednesday night.
For Vyner that means full focus on the task at hand as the banter between the pair goes on hold.
This will be defender Kelly’s first return to Ashton Gate since his transfer to the Cherries in the summer of 2019.
Vyner told Robins TV: “When we’re playing we’re not thinking about friendships but definitely there will be a chance to speak to him - I pretty much speak to him every day anyway! It will be a good battle out there.
“We don’t talk about football if we are about to play each other, we keep ourselves to ourselves. It’s more afterwards, we’ll pick up the banter and the friendship again.”
Kelly’s Bournemouth beat City back in October, where Arnaut Danjuma’s 81st-minute strike settled a 1-0 win on the South Coast, and there were lessons to learn from the experience.
Fast forward to the present and City head into the game off the back of back to back 3-1 wins on the road as they look to close the gap on their opponents to four points, who currently occupy sixth-spot in the Championship table.
Vyner, regularly playing in midfield this season, received the best Opta match rating in Sunday’s win over Swansea, grabbing an assist in the process as Nigel Pearson secured victory in his first game as Robins manager.
He continued: “It’s been a great week on the road and when you look back on those games (Middlesbrough and Swansea), they were tough. We’ve done a lot of travelling and we’ve got the results. That’s the most important thing.”
City's game will be live on Robins TV with a 7.15pm build-up.
