Freeman Pleased With Championship Know-How

At the time it may have felt painful, but Luke Freeman believes City are now benefiting from the trials and tribulations of the 2015/16 season.

The Ashton Gate club spent much of their first campaign back in the second tier fighting to stay clear of the dropzone.

Freeman and his team-mates are determined to learn that Championship experience and put their newfound know-how into good use this campaign.

So far, so good, Lee Johnson’s side have recorded five wins in seven matches, occupying sixth in the Championship table and progressing to round three of the EFL Cup.

He told Bristol City Player HD: “Last year we were still learning a lot about the division.

“We’re still learning now, but we have got a year’s experience of the Championship under our belts.

“We certainly can’t underestimate Rotherham this weekend. We need to use all the know-how we’ve gained, do our homework and prepare right for the game.”

A 14-day gap between their 3-1 win over Aston Villa and tomorrow’s visit to Rotherham has come at the right time, the midfielder believes.

“It was an enjoyable break and something the whole team deserved after a good first month of the campaign,” Freeman added.

“To come back with seven games in the first month has been extremely tough. However, that’s what pre-season is for, to get you ready for what’s ahead so it doesn’t feel too tough.

“It’s certainly the busiest August I’ve ever experienced, but now we’ve had the break and we’re ready to knuckle back down in training.

“The results have gone our way for most of the season so far and the confidence in the group is high.

“We’ve got a lot of internationals in the squad, we’ve got strength in depth and it’ll put us in good stead for the season.”
