Football Fans Pack The Gate To Watch Euro 2016

More than a thousand football fans filled Ashton Gate Stadium over the weekend to watch the opening games of Euro 2016.

Throughout the tournament the Sports Bar & Grill will be showing every game live with a special fan zone created in the South Stand concourse for each England group game.

On Saturday afternoon the Sports Bar & Grill was sold out as home nations Wales and England had back-to-back fixtures.

Supporters settled into the Sports Bar to watch Wales defeat Slovakia 2-1 in a dream Euro debut, followed by England’s 1-1 draw with Russia.

Sunday saw another influx of fans, this time from Bristol’s Polish community who packed out the bar.

“It’s been a brilliant afternoon and such a great atmosphere! I’ve not been to the stadium before but will definitely be back for our game against Germany on Thursday, which hopefully will be another win for Poland!” Said Tomasz Fryc from Portishead.

Chief of stadium operations Mark Kelly said “It has been great to welcome so many new fans to the stadium. Over the weekend we saw more than a thousand supporters choose Ashton Gate to be their venue of choice to watch the tournament from.

“With the biggest indoor pub screen in the country plus the concourse area for England games, with its VIP area and large temporary screen, we can offer something really different for sports fans. Great food, atmosphere and space all in a fantastic football environment.”
