Aden Flint has revealed how he went from screaming at Jamie Paterson to thanking him as City produced a stunning second-half display to beat Barnsley.
City trailed twice in Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship encounter with the Tykes, leaving them firmly in the relegation mire.
However, goals from Tammy Abraham and Paterson turned the game around, before Flint’s 74th-minute bullet header won the contest – leaving them on the brink of safety.
Flint told Bristol City Player HD: “I had a few chances from corners; I was actually having a go at Pato for not waiting for my run at a previous set-piece.
“I had a feeling I would score from the moment I woke up. To be fair, Pato put it on a sixpence for me and it was probably harder to miss in the end.
“We weren’t at the races in the first half and had to sort that out at half-time. We showed character to come back from behind twice to win the game.”
It means City now sit six points clear of the dropzone, with just two games left to play, and they also have a nine-goal advantage on Blackburn Rovers in 22nd place.
“We know what we’ve got to do now,” added Flint. “We’re nearly there now but work still needs to be done.
“I’m sure the boys will be focused going into the last two games to ensure we get what we need to stay up.
“It’s been nice to get four wins on the bounce at Ashton Gate. Now we need to build on that against Brighton on TV, before returning here for the final game against Birmingham (May 7th, midday kick-off).
“We want to finish as high as possible.”
